She opened up about how to become a flight attendant in her recent video, and what the job really entails. In the original video in which she does a taste test of her absolute favorite sandwich at Subway. It is six inch turkey sandwich which Lexi has been getting since she was ten years old, and she gets the house sauce and sun chips with a Sprite or Seven Up.

Unwrapping the sandwich as she talks about her flight attendant career ‘Mukbang’ style. Lexi reveals the sandwich and how she likes it on Italian bread and she usually puts orange, cheddar, lettuce, spinach, jalapeños, onions, pickles and mustard on her Subway with ranch dressing. Lexi likes to know what people usually put on their sandwiches. She let’s everyone in a little secret, which is dipping the chips in the house sandwich sauce, to make the perfect side dish. Lexi gets into it about her career as a flight attendant in a Q and A. It is super easy to become a flight attendant and Lexi herself has a history in this profession as she had gone to school for travel and tourism, as well as having certification to work on a yacht. She has been in the travel industry for a while, also working as a corporate travel agent and has worked in bars and restaurants, giving her a background in hospitality. Graduating from College right after Covid with the travel agency on hold, she waited while gaining experience working in bars and restaurants.

Lexi’s number one piece of advice for anyone who wants to get into this line of work is “not to go to flight attendant school”. There is not a general training program that would prepare you for being a flight attendant according to Lexi, as the training is very airline specific. According to Lexi, flight attendant College is a waste of money even though seemingly, it may make you more attractive to airlines. It will not however, help you get hired with airlines just because you have the training. In answer to the question what are the qualifications that are needed to be a flight attendant, Lexi shares how her coworkers come from all different backgrounds and jobs. Fundamentally, the ‘core’ of being a flight attendant is the safety aspect and possessing people skills. It is crucial to be both able bodied and safety oriented, otherwise you won’t be able to do the job of saving people if “things where to go down” essentially. ‘You are not just there to serve people drinks”.

Lexi Winters has a stylish, fun look

Customer service is important as there are many things that can go wrong when people are flying which just adds to the chaos, Lexi explains so if you have these three qualities then you would be able to do the job. Being a flight attendant is not easy and not for everyone. The job has long hours and it is hard. For Lexi, she likes the flexibility that this job affords her, she can set her own schedule and make her own hours. She has never been a fan of working nine to five. In response to a question about salary, Lexi explains how flight attendants get paid by flight hours, which is not hourly. Flight attendants are paid out as soon as the doors close upon takeoff. to landing when the doors open again.

Lexi loves being a flight attendant, it is a lot of fun according to her. It is a job which allows you to pursue other things, which for Lexi is social media. Being a flight attendant does not take up her entire time and allows her to film vlogs. A typical day for a flight attendant entails going to the airport before your flight, and conducting the appropriate pre flight checks before passengers begin to board. Then she meets with crew in order to do a crew briefing and talk about safety of the aircraft. This helps foster communication and camaraderie, as they get to know one another before the flight. Her flights are called “pairings,” where you are away for four days, which involve “legs” which essentially means ‘where you are going to be’ for the duration of your flight. Where a flight attendant will be on their ‘legs’ varies, it is where they are sent by the airline. One of the perks of the job is that the airline puts you up in a hotel while you are on a ‘leg’ of your flight, as you are away from home.

For that Lexi is grateful.

Each night you are away the airline puts you up in a hotel and so amenities like the hotel gym, and hotel breakfast are all comped by the airline. Lexi adores traveling and getting paid to do so is a bonus p. However, some people do not like being away from home for so long. For Lexi it is a really great experience. Being asked how many hours does a flight attendant usually work, Lexi points out how it varies. Some people work the bare minimum of ten hours, so that they may focus on their other job while still getting their flight benefits. Whereas, Lexi is a full time flight attendant and she works upwards to four pairings a month while also being on reserve. She confides how being on reserve as a flight attendant is her least favorite thing, because you cannot plan out your life, as it all very random. Being on call all of the time is difficult.

The most common question which Lexi received about being a flight attendant is also the most obvious, does she get free flights/travel perks? She does get free flights and that is what she is most grateful for this job. Travel is Lexi’s number one passion besides food. Unlike the United States where flight attendants would fly completely free, in Canada they fly ‘standby,’ which means that they pay a small amount in the way of airport fees. That is what makes hard days at work worth it as she is able to give this flight benefit to herself, her partner, her family and friends. The downside of being on standby is when the plane gets over booked so that she would not be able to get a seat, however it has never happened to Lexi yet. When asked what flight attendants usually do on layovers, Lexi responds that they differ and it depends on how many hours a layover is. For instance, some layovers are only ten hours giving just enough time to shower and go to bed. What Lexi likes to do in layovers is to go to the gym, soak in the hot tub and go to breakfast in the morning. If she has a long layover for twenty four hours, then she likes to explore the city. For her, sleep and recuperation is more important than exploring a city. However, it really depends on who you are with.

The worst part of being a flight attendant is how you get paid, which is not by the hour but from the time the doors close and the wheels are in the air, to the time the plane touches down. Essentially, you are doing a lot of free labor. However, the perks of the job override any downsides. The other drawback is when customers who are having a bad day take it out on the flight attendant, so their job is to de-escalate the situation. Her favorite part would be to take family members on a flight for their first trip to Disney Land for instance, and for her to be able to give them this experience and to be a part of it. Being able to travel the world and get paid for it is truly Lexi’s most favorite part of the job. Being a flight attendant is the perfect job for her, one of the hardest parts is getting a recertification every year for safety. Flight attendants are trained extensively to deal with turbulence and emergencies. Lots of people fail flight attendant training, which means they can’t evacuate an airplane properly. Flight attendants take their job very seriously and safety is the utmost priority. There is are uniform guidelines as opposed to a requirement, primarily being hair up for safety and an overall polished look. The look varies according to the airline.
